An Herbal Tea Workshop & Seasonal Breakfast Inspired by the Imperial Herb-Gathering Ritual
A morning program in Asuka centered on medicinal herb culture — experienced through personal creation. Inspired by the historic imperial court event known as “Kusurigari” (herb gathering), participants work with ten varieties of herbs, including yomogi (mugwort), symbolically associated with the tradition. Together with a herbal facilitator, guests explore the properties and aromas of each plant — many of which are surprisingly familiar in everyday life. Rather than being served a prepared tea, participants select, blend, and create their own herbal infusion tailored to their body and senses. The act of choosing and composing becomes the experience itself. Following the workshop, guests enjoy a specially prepared herbal breakfast (a refined, health-conscious bento). Breakfast is served on a hill overlooking 石舞台古墳, within the Asuka–Fujiwara area — a symbolic historic landscape seeking World Heritage recognition. With open views and morning light, the herbal tea’s lingering aroma and the scenery merge into a continuous, immersive experience.
